Fu Ziying, Assistant Minister of Commerce
May 16, 2005
Distinguished guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my great pleasure to attend the Annual Convention 2005 of the International Federation of Warehousing Logistics Associations. Firstly, on behalf of the Ministry of Commerce, I would like to express our warm welcome and heartfelt thanks.
In recent years, logistics has been a hot business allover China. Logistics market is flourishing and turns a favorable momentum of development. Warehousing and logistics enterprises worldwide are taking part in the competition in logistics industry in China. The Convention is held in Beijing and Shanghai with a theme of "Warehousing Logistics--China's Development and Opportunity"., which is a reflection of the flourishing business.
I would like to elaborate on 3 points:
1, China's Open-up has promoted the development of logistics industry.
2, Development of China’s logistics industry depends on further open-up.
3, China’s Logistics industry has a bright future.
1, China's Open-up has promoted the development of logistics industry.
Trade is the important driving factor for logistics, there would be no development of international logistics without international trade. Since the open-up, China's foreign trade has kept a fast and steady development and the scale maintained expanding, which provided a firm base for the development of logistics. In 2004, China's foreign trade broke through US$1 trillion, amounting to US$1.1548 trillion and ranking No.3 in the world. China attributed 10% to the growth of the global trade, ranking No.2. In 2005, China's foreign trade maintained rapid growth and the imports and exports in the first 4 months increased by 23%.
The development of foreign trade pushs forward the development of logistics industry. In 2004, throughput of goods for foreign trade in China was over 1.1 billion tons. In the past 2 years, transportation of bulk trade increased sharply, and 70% of the growth came from China. China has been one of the key logistics centers in the world.
2, Development of China’s logistics industry depends on further open-up.
To keep the healthy and sustainable development of logistics industry requests further open-up of mechanism and the broad communication and cooperation with foreign companies. In the past 20 years, China's logistics industry have learnt advanced management concept from foreign companies in logistics in the process of expanding open-up, enhanced understanding about modern logistics, and introduced lots of technologies and management experiences about logistics. China's logistics industry will further deepen study, communication and cooperation through "going global" and "introducing in". The Convention provides a good platform for guests here to communicate, and I hope that you could seize the opportunity to create a new situation of two-way communication.
3, China’s Logistics industry has a bright future.
Chinese government has put forward a magnificent aim of Well-off society in an all-round way. It will take advantages of the important strategic opportunities in the first 20 years in the century to expedite the process of industrialization and Urbanization. The expansion of foreign trade must create more comprehensive international logistics market and more trading opportunities for domestic and foreign logistics enterprises.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
China's logistics market is full of potential with a bright prospect, preferential investment policy and favorable environment. Welcome worldwide enterprises engaging in logistics to invest in China in various forms to seek for cooperation to realize mutual development.
I wish the Convention a success!
Thanks!
